I plan to convert to Judaism when I get older.
NOOO! DON'T HURT ME, PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE! DON'T KICK ME OUT!
Uhh, yeah. But that's not what I was going to angst and moan about.
See, there's another board I'm on. And on it is this girl who's OBSESSED with being Jewish. Seriously. She pretty much mentions it in every post. (She's the only one on the board as far as I know.) I once mentioned to her about how I want to convert to her religion and how she was so lucky to have been born into it, and she went all, "NOOOOOO! YOU CAN'T BECAUSE IT'S A SECRET CLUB AND YOU'RE NOT SPECIAL ENOUGH TO JOIN, YOU GUINEA DAGO WOPPA BITCH!! HISSSSSS!!!1" (Well, not really. But that's the impression I got. ) Then she's always going on about "Oh, I have to go through this and this and this with neighbors and they think I have horns, ect. ect. BlahblahblahHolocaustblahblahblah..." It's like she's a living caricature. Now lately her thing has been proving to other people in long arguments how she has it so much worse than everyone else.
So I figured that since this is the place to angst about Jews...rotfl I feel like a backwards nazi. _________________ "The sun's not yellow, it's chicken!" - Bob Dylan

Eh, I try to stay out of that religion stuff, I do believe there is god, however, but I'm not all like "OMFG GOD IS GONNA SMITE YOU DOWN LULZ YOU DUN GO TO CHURCH Glskfjdh READ TEH BIBLE LULZ!1!1!" I don't go to church or follow the bible. I just know there is something out there with a greater power.
for being a Jew, however, my great grandma had Jew in her, the race, her skin was tan, I don't see how i have Jew in me, all I am is dark brown hair, and I am as white as a sheep. You can poke me if you want, just no photographs.
I have no problem with Jews, Buddhists, Christians, satanists, Wicca (heh, Wicca is, I think descends from Ireland or something like that, i am mostly Irish, so no, I've actually wanted to convert to that, but nah, and I think someone in my family was a wiccan, i think) or anything, but I try not to say anything about their religion or mention religion.
I am an odd person, I have mostly Irish/English/German and the rest is a mix of other things. The only time I have problem with religion is if someone TRIES to convert me. Not that I hate the religion itself but I just hate people that shove their religion down your throat. _________________

I'm pretty tolerant of religions. The only religion I hate is Scientology. I mean wtf?
And I've actually never met a tan Jew. Every one I've ever known has been as pale as I am. And let me tell ya...that's pretty pale. Dark-skinned Sicilians are a total stereotype! _________________ "The sun's not yellow, it's chicken!" - Bob Dylan

well she sounds like a total idiot. it makes no difference what religion she practises. she could be just as obsessed with anything else and still be an idiot. xB
its just best to ignore her... when a person is that obsessed with their religion, beliefs or whatever, they are usually too closed-minded to listen to anyone else's opinions...and its pointless to argue with them. _________________

Religion is such a huge and hard subject. I get all tired just thinking about it. and what an idiot that Jewish girl seems to be. She clearly has the wrong idea of religion... Shouldn't she be happy that one more person is saved from hell?
Sweden is like, the most secularized country on the planet, so here everyone kind of assumes that you are either an atheist or a Christian who just goes to church on Christmas Eve (dat's me!). Or muslim; many immigrants. Having a faith is something that's almost weird in the eyes of most people here, I think.
I think I believe in God, but I don't live like the Bible says, and like I said, I only go to church on Christmas Eve.
I believe I'm open-minded about peoples' faith, just like I am about their political views, unless they're extreme. I have friends who are protestants (my best friend's wife is a priest) as well as catholic and muslim. One thing I can't handle though are sects. They are just creepy. As is Scientology. That's more of a "religion" than a religion. >_<
LP, what made you want to convert to Judaism? _________________

I don't think that even believers know exactly what it is. O_o
Anyway, I've interpreted it as a kind of spiritual faith, where you believe that humans have lived several lives (and therefore is immortal) and that their spirit is "enslaved" by the mistakes made in pervious lives, and that this slavery has created all the evil on the planet. Woe. It's like a mix of sci-fi, psycology and older philosophy. Makes sense, yeah? They also seem to throw some kind of "dark magic" and Freud into the mix. Tasty.
So theis goal is to heal the person spiritualy, and to be healed you have to go to all these courses which they of course charge you for. And I read somewhere that yoh learn more of the religion's "secrets" the longer you are a member.
If you ask me, it all just sounds like a way to trick people into believing that they can find salvation, and take their money in the process. _________________

A.) I don't agree with a lot of the way that the Church tells us to live. It's too close-minded and expects too much out of us. There was a lot that was simply made up in the early years. Also, I think that Christians have an attitude like "Well, I don't have to do anything in life because I'm just going to get into heaven anyway." I think that trying to actually make EARTH into a heaven during life is a much better attitude.
B.) I think the Church misinterpreted why Jesus was here. I don't think he was the Messiah. I think the Messiah is still to come. Jesus, to me, was the greatest of the prophets (which I know is more Muslim, but stfu ).
C.) It's the roots of the three religions, so I feel like it has more valididity.
D.) It's pretty flexible nowadays. Many people believe in reincarnation, which I know is something I've had a few times. (I could tell you what I was in my most recent life, but that's not important right now.)
E.) Yiddish is an awesome language. I mean wtf.
And if I ever change my mind about Jesus (which I probably won't), I'll become a Gnostic Christian - which is closer to Buddhism than anything else. I definitely won't stay Roman Catholic.

I see, thanks. You seem to have thought it through; go for it! I've heard all these stories about people who went through hell to convert to another religion and then changed their minds after a week...
And gah, Yiddish is crazy! xD I could never learn to read that. O_o Sounds a tiny bit like German, though.
Oh, and;

WTF, I'm more Scientologist than Muslim. x( And Jehovah's Witness?! They're scary! When I lived with my parents the Witnesses used to come and knock on our door and asked if we wanted to see the light. I was so tempted to ask them to come in and "see the light" and then blind them with a flashlight, or something. _________________

I never really believed in religion since I was old enough not to believe in Santa anymore...
I respect peoples belief and I don't want to harm anyone, but my belief is that religion is the biggest lie in the world. Basically nothing in the Bible is true, still people read it and worship it. Seriously, it says the Earth is flat, and that women should stay at home and do the cooking.
What's more, it's a source of conflict. It leaded to wars and death of innocent people, etc. It leaded to misbelief... According to most religions, natural catastrophes is God's wrath. Wrath is a sin. Does that mean God sins too? Everyone experienced the 7 deadly sins, does that mean we're all good for hell? What's the base of good and bad if it determines our afterlife? What proves that there's an afterlife?
I'm sorry if some of you believe in a God, but I don't. I know there's no evidence of God's existence, but to me, all signs point to no.
I like the culture around religions, but I don't believe in them.
I prefer Greek and Roman mythology <3 _________________ Der ver zwei peanuts, valking down der strasse. Und one vos assaulted...peanut. ho-ho-ho-ho-ho.
