I respect peoples belief and I don't want to harm anyone, but my belief is that religion is the biggest lie in the world. Basically nothing in the Bible is true, still people read it and worship it. Seriously, it says the Earth is flat, and that women should stay at home and do the cooking.
What's more, it's a source of conflict. It leaded to wars and death of innocent people, etc. It leaded to misbelief... According to most religions, natural catastrophes is God's wrath. Wrath is a sin. Does that mean God sins too? Everyone experienced the 7 deadly sins, does that mean we're all good for hell? What's the base of good and bad if it determines our afterlife? What proves that there's an afterlife?
I'm sorry if some of you believe in a God, but I don't. I know there's no evidence of God's existence, but to me, all signs point to no.
I like the culture around religions, but I don't believe in them.

I prefer Greek and Roman mythology <3

- Where does it say that the Earth is flat? :( In twelve years of going to Catholic school, I've never heard of those lines.

- A lot of what I believe comes from personal experience through dreams, ect. instead of what the Bible says. The Bible was written by people, so I don't know why some think it can't ever be wrong. Thinking that God wrote the Bible is silly.

- It's a source of conflict because of differences in interpretation. And that's really, really sad. What about the rule of nonviolence???

- The Catholic Church thinks differently, but in Judaism we believe that God is forgiving and that nobody really will go to Hell. They'll be punished for their sins in some way, but they won't be subject to eternal damnation.

- I tend to think that young atheists are only trying to be OMGKEWL and OMGEMOOOOO because most of them have done no research whatsoever and have never once tried to tap into the subconscious. But I don't think that's you. You have valid reasons. :jaja: I'm not trying to change your views, I'm just giving you my side. Hopefully you don't think I'm naive or anything. :C I try really hard not to be.

And yes, Greek and Roman mythology is awesome! <3 They all had really cool names. I mean, Hephaestus? Badass.

I'm happily atheist...I hate most organised religions, but Buddhism is just wonderful. If I was to join any religion it would be that one, but I'm too materialist to bother, plus meditating hurts my ass. (we went to a Buddhist temple once on camp and we all had to meditate in this one room)

-I was told that the Bible said the Earth was flat... but then again I never read it. They probably didn't mention it because it was already proved wrong, and that since you probably knew about it they didn't want to make you think the Bible lied. But that's just my interpretation...
-I have no idea who wrote the Bible, probably a whole lot of people, I think it might be interesting to read but I don't think it's very reliable, some protestants are a bit too fanatic about it.
-Well it's the main thing I don't like about religion, especially Chistians -- "You don't believe in my God, then you're a heretic and you're going to hell" D: that's not right...
-Well, the Jews did some good things after all... x)
-I don't think being atheist is OMGKEWL, I just don't believe in a God, and I'm glad you didn't take it the wrong way. Like I said, I respect your beliefs even if I don't share them. Here in France, Church has been separate from State for quite a while, so most of us aren't very religious.

I think it has something to do with the fact that we're in a Catholic school. People our age think they're so rebellious. Because, you know, it's soooooooo rebellious to sit around all day and play Guitar Hero. rotfl

It's fine that you're thinking about converting. I got no problem with it.
I'm not religious myself, butI like to read about them out of intellectual interest.

I knew someone like that in real life, and boy was she keen on letting everybody know she's jewish...

Actually, only Gardenarian Wicca got its roots over there in Eire. Most of what we call "Wicca" today is nothing more than an offshoot of Alex Gardener and his whacked-out cronies.

As for Paganism - the religion that existed before this whole paternalistic BS Judeo-Christian "women are bad mmmkay" dogmatic craptastic religion (can you tell I'm not fond of Christianity in any form? XD OR organized religion for that matter... XD XD) - paganism existed in many different forms for many millenia - from Roman pantheism and Egyptian pantheism, Sumerian, Babylonian, Greek, Norse.. etc.

I believe in freedom of religious practice/thought, just as long as no Christian, Muslim or whatever whackjobs come knocking at my door to try to convert me. Then I'll make with the sacrifice.

I don't mind Jews to an extent. But if they are stereotypical ones, I'm going to have to gas 'em.

1. Neo-Pagan (100%)
2. Mahayana Buddhism (81%)
3. Unitarian Universalism (81%) Oh shit not these wussbags.
4. New Age (81%) Fuck me, it's fairies and pink unicorns.
5. Reform Judaism (77%) WTF NO! Juden Rausen!
6. Jainism (68%)
7. Liberal Quakers (67%) Verily the spirit doth move me to farteth.
8. Theravada Buddhism (67%)
9. Sikhism (66%)
10. Hinduism (65%)
11. New Thought (64%)
12. Bahá'í Faith (62%)
13. Scientology (58%)
14. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (56%)
15. Orthodox Judaism (51%)
16. Taoism (50%)
17. Secular Humanism (50%)
18. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (45%)
19. Islam (42%)
20. Orthodox Quaker (35%)
21. Nontheist (28%)
22. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (24%)
23. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Morons) (23%) Oops. There's an extra "M" in there.
24. Eastern Orthodox (17%)
25. Roman Catholic (17%)
26. Seventh Day Adventist (13%)
27. Jehovah's Witness (4%)

Oh Godddd....That reminds me of a thread on the DeviantFART forum (which I now avoid). There was some guy that was talking about how atheism was the biggest hoax of the century and was pushing his views on everyone else. He then went on to say that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, that dinosaurs are just a bunch of whale and cow bones, and that George Bush is here to save the world.

He was such a stereotypical Republican it was scary. 8|

AND I COULD PROBABLY FIND THAT THREAD TOO IF THAT FORUM HAD, LIKE, A SEARCH FUNCTION OR SOMETHING.

Gaaah I hate these people >< I'm an atheist but I don't go around yelling at people that they're wasting their time praying and should burn churches! (Churches and temples are very nice, for that I like religion  ) Just like any religious person shouldn't go around telling people they're going to hell if they don't go to church every Sunday...
I had no idea people still believed in George Bush.
